Koi UFO Video 066

Koi UFO Video 066 : UFO over Nowra, Australia (2010)

[DEBUNKED] Koi UFO Video 066 appears to show a UFO moving around under clouds in the night sky, lighting up the bottom of those clouds. This video was originally posted online in 2010 with the title "UFO over Nowra, Australia Sept. 17, 2010 **ORIGINAL**".

The video was uploaded with a caption claiming that the footage was real.

In fact, as detailed below, the video shows a RAAF F-111 performing a "dump-and-burn" (in which a fuel dump is ignited) over Brisbane (not Nowra) as part of the Riverfire festival in September 2010.  A dump-and-burn is a fuel dump in which the fuel is ignited, intentionally, using the plane's afterburner. A spectacular flame combined with high speed makes this a popular display for air shows or as a finale to a fireworks show. The sound appears to have been deliberately turned off in the "UFO" video to hinder identification of the true nature of the "UFO". After a member of the AboveTopSecret.com discussion forum ("gift0fpr0phecy") gave detailed evidence to support this view (including detailed comparisons between the "UFO" video and footage shot at another location of the "dump-and-burn"), the person that uploaded the video subsequently posted on Youtube that gift0fpr0phecy had been right and "this video is BS" and that he had "had a good lol" (laugh-out-loud).  The uploader stated that "challenges are nice once in a while" and that "It's video's like this that separate those of us who have logic and those who don't".

That admission by the video uploader had he "had a good lol" (laugh-out-loud) about his upload and that "it's the last F-11 that will do a dump and burn over Brisbane" has been deleted from the Youtube comments. As with the apparently deliberate removal of the sound, the deletion of that admission appears to be designed to hinder identification of the true source of the video. The video remains on Youtube and continues to get views there.

3. The real background to this video

The RAAF have used the F-111 dump-and-burn as a party piece in various airshows and festivals in Australia.

The dump and burn shown in the "UFO" video was performed as part of the "Riverfire festival" in Brisbane in 2010. The Riverfire festival is an annual event held in Brisbane each September which involves lots of fireworks, entertainers and things to do.

Quite a few videos can be found of a dump and burn being performed at night in Brisbane in September 2010, including this one:

It is easier to picture the dump-and-burn by seeing daylight footage of such a fuel dump by a F-111. It's pretty impressive.

The fact that there was going to be a "dump and burn" at the Riverfire festival in Brisbane in September 2010 had been the subject of press coverage. That press coverage included an article on the Australian ABC website, which stated that "the dump and burn is back for one last show".  That article also included the following explanation of the "dump and burn":

"Wing Commander Gray, who will be piloting one of the F-111s on Riverfire night, says the dump and burn is simply down to a quirk of design.

"Every big aircraft that carries a lot of fuel - even big airlines have that ability to be able to dump fuel in case they need to come back to lighten the load," he said.

"With the F-111 the dump port where the fuel comes out is actually between the engines and because we are an after-burner aircraft, which is gives us more power, we basically inject fuel into the exhaust. That's what most fighter-type aircraft do.

"If we're dumping fuel at the same time when we're in afterburner the fuel ignites, whereas in other aircrafts it would just be seen as a vapour stream.""

In a discussion of this "UFO" video on the AboveTopSecret discussion forum in 2010, after one member posted that the video resembled a dump-and-burn, another member ("gift0fpr0phecy") really got the bit between his teeth and looked into that possibility at some length.  He repeatedly posted his conclusion that the video did indeed show a dump-and-burn with the sound deliberately turned off to hinder identification of the true nature of the "UFO". He ultimately concluded that 'the video was filmed on 4 September 2010 during the third pass of the F-111 dump-and-burn display at the Riverfire festival in Brisbane, commenting that after carefully studying a video of the Riverfire festival he had found the flight path to be "completely identical". He posted that the jet in the Riverfire festival "flies up, makes a U-turn, then 27 seconds after the U-turn the jet turns off the dump-and-burn" whereas in the "UFO" video "the object flies up towards the clouds, makes a U-turn, then 27 seconds after the U-turn the object turns off the light. This can not be a coincidence".  He also noticed that "11 seconds after the U-turn, on BOTH videos, the jet/object makes a very slight turn". He concluded that this was not a coincidence.

"Gift0fpr0phecy" (using his Youtube username of "Hoaxkiller1") also helpfully posted the video below on Youtube in 2010 entitled ""Nowra UFO" is a F-111 dump-and-burn" with the caption "The video on the left is from the Brisbane Festival on 9/4/2010. The video on the right is the so called "UFO". Hoaxkiller added the following in 2012:

"Wow is this a moron attack or what? The F111 fuel dump was at the Brisbane Festival on 9/4/2010. The video on the left is a F111 fuel dump, taken from another video found on YouTube.. The video on the right is the "UFO". Both objects in each video are 100% identical, and are taken from different perspectives. This proves the person who claimed the object on the right was a UFO was lying. Come on people, this happened 2 years ago and has been debunked for 2 years. Get with the program".

Significantly, after Gift0fpr0phecy posted all this material on AboveTopSecret.com, the uploader of the "UFO" video posted a comment on his own video which admitted the true position.  He posted the following (which he subsequently deleted, but the text was quoted in a post on the AboveTopSecret.com forum and has thus fortunately been preserved):

"This video is BS as mentioned by 'gift0fpr0phecy' of AboveTopSecret.com.

Very good researching everyone, challenges are nice once in a while.

It's video's like this that separate those of us who have logic and those who don't.

Regardless, this is still awesome because it's the last F1-11 that will do a dump and burn over Brisbane. I'm glad it got the recognition that it deserves. :}

Thanks for your time, had a good lol".
