Koi UFO Video 064: UFO seen from boat - Galicia, Spain
[DEBUNKED] Koi UFO Video 064 is footage of a UFO dropping into (or at least towards) the sea, with a helicopter and military jets flying in the area. The video appears to have been filmed from a boat (which appearing to be a fishing trawler) near Galicia (Spain).
The video was uploaded to Youtube in October 2009. By October 2014, the various copies on Youtube had a total of over 1.5 million views.
In fact, as detailed below, this video was part of a series of hoaxes created as a tribute to Orson Welles' "War of the Worlds" radio broadcast by the Spanish "Terra" online media website.
Would you be surprised to hear that copies of a video by the hoaxers explaining how they made their hoaxed footage have a tiny fraction of the number of views of the hoaxed footage??

2. Stories and claims relating to this video
The title of the most viewed copy of this video on Youtube is "Galicia UFO High Quality". It was posted on 3 October 2009 and has over 1,000,000 views as at October 2014. The text accompanying the video indicates that the video first appeared on 1 October 2009 "on the website of Terra".
"Terra" is a Spanish online media website, run by Terra Networks SA - a Spanish multinational company with headquaters in Spain and Brazil (and part of the Telefonica Group, the former Spanish public telephone monopoly).
The webpage on the "Terra" website on which the video was originally released is defunct, but an archived copy of that webpage can be recovered using the Wayback Machine's Internet Archive.
3. The real background to this video
This video was in fact one of a series of hoaxes created as a tribute to Orson Welles' "War of the Worlds" radio broadcast by the Spanish "Terra" online media website.
The Spanish "Terra" online media website which released the original video posted another article on 5 October 2009 which stated that it had been 71 years since the "War of the Worlds" broadcast by Orson Welles . Translated into English, that article stated
"In recent weeks the publication of news of the UFO phenomenon have been part of a tribute to the director and screenwriter. Terra News always put into question the published information , and never confirmed its veracity."
On 5 October 2009 a further article was published which included the following video on the making of the hoaxed footage and a message stating (translated into English)
The relevant video explaining how the hoaxed footage was made includes various shots of the relevant boat and helicopter, plus a glimpse into the special effects used. A few screenshots are embedded below.
Copies of the video by the hoaxers explaining how they made their hoaxed footage have a tiny fraction of the number of views of the hoaxed footage.
One article from 2009 by John Gosling on the Mars Times blog discussing the true source of the video comments as follows:
"Quite odd to think (and a little worrying) that something made to celebrate a fake broadcast could in itself be mistaken for the real thing. I discuss exactly this sort of thing in my book, Waging the War of the Worlds, arguing (I think all too plausibly given this example) that it would not be impossible for a really talented and determined group of people to pull off a scare on the scale of the Orson Welles War of the Worlds broadcast, though this time on a truly global scale".
Mmm. Now there's an interesting idea... !
