A five-day conference on “alien abductions” was held at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (“MIT”) between 13-17 June 1992, co-chaired by Harvard psychiatrist John E Mack and MIT physicist David E Pritchard. Commonly referred to as “the MIT Conference”.

 

 

During 1993, the US Congress stopped fundingof NASA’s SETI programme. Senator Richard Bryan was one of SETI’s leading opponents in the relevant debates.

 

 

 

 

On 12 October 1992, NASA’s SETI program (called “HRMS”, “High Resolution Microwave Survey”, or “MOP”, “Microwave Observing Project”) officially went online at Goldstone, California and Arecibo, Puerto Rico. Funds were withdrawn shortly thereafter.
