Koi UFO Video 082: "Rubber Johnny" alien video (Chris Cunningham)

[DEBUNKED] Koi UFO Video 082 appears to show a humanoid figure with a very large head.  In some shots the figure is seated in a wheelchair.  One copy of relevant footage with the title "E.T Capturado Pela Nasa" (Portuguese for E.T Captured By NASA) has over 2.6 million views as at October 2014. Another copy entitled "THE REAL LEAKED ALIEN FOOTAGE! WARNING: DISTURBING VIDEO" has over 1.7 million views. The video is regularly posted on UFO discussion forums and Facebook pages, inspiring many comments about the "creepy" and "disturbing" nature of the footage.

As detailed below, the footage in this video is extracted from a music video entitled "Rubber Johnny". The video was directed by Chris Cunningham and features music by Aphex Twin.  The full video lasts 6 minutes and shows the relevant figure talking and dancing.   The humanoid figure in the video is in fact the director, Chris Cunningham, wearing prosthetic makeup created by Neill Gorton.

3. The real background to this video

The footage in this video is extracted from a music video entitled "Rubber Johnny". The video was directed by  British video artist Chris Cunningham. It features music by Aphex Twin (the stage name for Richard David James, a British electronic musician and composer - specifically Aphex's track "Afx 237 v.7" from the album "Drukqs").  The full "Rubber Johnny" video lasts 6 minutes and shows the relevant figure talking and dancing to Aphex Twin's    The humanoid figure in the video is in fact the director, Chris Cunningham, wearing prosthetic makeup created by Neill Gorton.

The full "Rubber Johnny" video is embedded below.

"Rubber Johnny" has a page on the IMDB movie website which lists this video as an animated horror short, with a relatively high rating from IMDB users (with a score of 7.4 out of 10).  The IMDB website describes "Rubber Johnny" as "An experimental music video about a wheelchair-bound boy and morphs and moves to an Aphex Twin song. The experience gets weirder when he takes cocaine and everything gets out of control".

Snippets of the video are displayed on Chris Cunningham's own website.

Chris Cunningham discussed his "Rubber Johnny" video in an interview for the Pitchfork website, including commenting that it was "just horrible" wearing the head prosthetic in the video and that "It took about an hour to glue the rubber headpiece on and getting in the wheelchair was difficult."

Chris Cunningham is shown below:

The prosthetic effects for "Rubber Jonny" were created by Neill Gorton, as shown in credits at the end of the full "Rubber Johnny" video.

Full credits are given in the IMDB website's list of the cast and crew of the "Rubber Johnny" video - part of which is shown below.

Neill Gorton is an award-winning English make-up effects, prosthetics and animatronic designer. Neill Gorton runs a screen prosthetics and make-up effects school. He also runs (with co-director Rob Mayor) a company called "Millennium FX" which describes itself as "Europe’s leading supplier of cutting edge prosthetics, animatronics and special make-up FX". Neill Gorton has worked on various movies (including "Saving Private Ryan" (1998) and "Children of Men" (2006)).  My personal favourites are his many creations for "Doctor Who", although my children would currently be more interested on his work on the "Wizards vs. Aliens". (I am currently trying to remedy their preferences in television programmes...).  Some of Neill Gorton's work on "Doctor Who" is shown below.

The full "Rubber Johnny" video is sold as a DVD (with a 42 page book) on Amazon.

Chris Cunningham's other videos include the "Mental Wealth" advertisement for the Sony Playstation. That video is embedded below. I discuss that video on another webpage (see Koi UFO Video 054).

Chris Cunningham's "Rubber Johnny" video is often confused in discussions online with Philipe Kling David's CGI alien in his video "The Captive Gray" which I discusson another webpage (see Koi UFO Video 71):
