Various sightings occurred on the night of 1-2 August 1965, in relation to which the Air Force issued a press release which stated the sightings were of Jupiter, or the stars Rigel, Capella, Betelgeuse, or Aldebaran. Robert Risser (the director of the Oklahoma Science and Art Foundation Planetarium) stated that the Air Force statement “is as far from the truth as you can get. These stars and planets are on the opposite side of the Earth from Oklahoma City at this time of year. The Air Force must have had its star-finder upside down during August”.
