The movie “The Thing” was a remake, directed by John Carpenter, of “The Thing from Another World” (1951).

 

 

 

 

During 1982, Carl Sagan publishes a petition of scientists favouring an international SETI in the journal Science, stating “We are unanimous in our conviction that the only significant test of the existence of extraterrestrial intelligence is an experimental one. No a priori arguments on this subject can be compelling or should be used as a substitute for an observational program”.

 

 

 

 

During March 1982, “Suitcase SETI” connected to the radio telescope in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, having been developed by Harvard physicist Paul Horowitz in 1981-1982.
